
Genome Alberta’s focus on genomics is one of the central components of the Life Sciences Initiative in Canada. When they partnered with the online social network giant, Facebook, to launch their Genomics software they contacted Don Barnett at Nekton Design to develop a visual icon system. Nekton Design tapped Cognition Studio’s medical expertise to bring out the subtle characteristics behind each specific gene. During this partnership, Don created the overall brand (DNA strand, typography, dashed gray square) as well as the HERC2 and Illuminating Gene, and the remaining genes: First gene, A1 stubborn, Getaway, Don’t be bitter, Shake a leg, Foraging, Alcohol flush, Fiery red heads, Bit of a Stretch and Un gene were developed by Cognition Studio.
